The Sunbeam 1 occurrence is located on the eastern side of the Sooke River, north of its junction with Wolfe Creek.

The occurrence is one of a number of talc showings that occur on or adjacent to the Leech River fault. The fault separates Jurassic to Cretaceous Leech River Formation metasediments on the north, from Eocene Metchosin Volcanics on the south. The talc occurs in shear zones within slates and schists of the Leech River Formation. Its abundance in this area is probably related to the latest movement on the Leech River fault (Massey, Personal Communication; see 092B 031 - Invereck).

The showings in the area were also reported to contain native gold, sometimes found in the gouge material lying between the talc and the slate country rock (Minister of Mines Annual Report 1924, page 256). In 1978 and 1979, programs of trenching and nine diamond drill holes, totalling 278.9 metres, were completed on the area as the North, West, East and South claims. In 1985, the area was prospected as the Aura 1-2 claims. In 2001, the area was prospected for soapstone as the Wolf Creek 1 claim. This work identified a number of smaller talc occurrences intermittently exposed along Wolfe Creek.
